Feeling Stuck in Uncertainty? How EFT Tapping Can Help You Stay Grounded
Let’s be honest: it’s a wild time to be a human. We’re living in a world that feels increasingly unpredictable—politically, economically, socially. It’s as if the ground keeps shifting beneath our feet, and we’re all trying to find something steady to hold onto. Covid Pandemic? WW3? Crisis? Chaos? It’s all around - all the time.
Uncertainty is no longer just an occasional blip on the radar—it’s the atmosphere in 2025. I’ve found it pretty challenging in 2025 and it’s definitely been a lesson for me in learning what I have control over and what I can and can’t change. And how to ground myself to release emotions like stress, anxiety, etc.
So, if you’ve been feeling more anxious, overwhelmed, or emotionally drained lately, you’re definitely not alone. I feel like this year it seems many people are either very tuned out or very tuned in.. And you know what? It’s a constant battle to ground yourself with so much happening. And if you’re like me, you feel a sense of social responsibility to stay informed, up to date on what’s happening in the world, because this all affects us.
In fact, I want to tell you something that might surprise you: even as a coach who works with emotional regulation and resilience, I still struggle with uncertainty too.
And that's okay.
Let’s talk about how I manage uncertainty in my own life, especially as someone who lives far from my family, feels deeply, and often gets emotional about things that are totally out of my control. If you’re new here and haven’t read any of my other blog posts, I want to introduce you to one of the most helpful tools I’ve ever used—EFT tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique). It’s simple, science-backed, and incredibly powerful for calming the mind and regulating the nervous system when life feels chaotic.

Why Uncertainty Feels So Overwhelming
Uncertainty hits differently for different people, but for sensitive, empathetic folks? It can be especially heavy. I’m someone who absorbs a lot of emotional energy. I care deeply about people and the world. When I see suffering, injustice, or conflict—and I can’t do anything about it—it lands in my body like grief. In 2025, if you’re paying attention (especially with a background in journalism!) it seems to be everywhere.
Add to that the personal layer of living far away from my family, and there’s often this weight I carry even though yes, I chose this and it’s the best way for everyone. The feeling of “I don’t know what’s going to happen.” And in the background, that familiar tension of “What if it gets worse?”
This isn’t about being dramatic—it’s about being human in a world where we’re asked to be constantly available, responsive, and ‘on’ while holding an invisible emotional load.
And it’s exhausting. But as Jessica Ortner says: “You can’t stress yourself to a solution..”
What the Experts Say About Managing Uncertainty
Experts and psychologists say that fear of the unknown is one of the biggest drivers of anxiety. When we can’t predict what’s coming, our brain tends to treat uncertainty as a potential threat — because it doesn’t know what to prepare for.
One WebMD article says that:
“Our ancestors needed to be cautious about being in unpredictable situations in order to stay safe. But in today’s world, this response can be overwhelming as we face all types of uncertainty,” Jacqueline K. Gollan, PhD, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago.
One article from Counselling Directory suggests 4 ways to make peace with uncertainty
1. Lean into your curiosity when anxiety calls: Ask what it is trying to tell you. Instead of fearing the unknown, develop new ways to embrace and explore it. Read widely, always question assumptions, and engage in conversations that challenge your perspective of life.
2. Focus on your presence: Anxiety thrives in speculation about the future. Anchoring yourself in the present moment through mindfulness, creativity, or simply noticing life's small details helps to ease the fear of what's to come. Even in times of great stress, you can reduce your fear.
3. Create, rather than seek, meaning: Whether through relationships, personal projects, art, or acts of kindness, the meaning you generate is just as valid as any philosophical conclusion.
4. Accept the absurd: Some questions will always remain unanswered, and that's OK. This doesn't require certainty; it only requires your engagement.
What I’ve Learned About Managing Emotional Overload
One of the most important things I’ve learned—both personally and professionally—is that emotional regulation isn’t about pushing the feelings away. It’s about letting them move through.
A few simple practices help me come back to myself when I feel overwhelmed by uncertainty:
- Spending time biking in nature, or even just a walk outside to feel the breeze on my face.
-Heading to the lakes or mountains on the weekend to relax and recharge.
- Listening to soothing music (the other day, I was working and got a TikTok notification that James Malikey was playing piano LIVE—let me tell you, it was like someone poured honey on my nervous system)
- Journaling to be able to reflect on my thoughts and the day in the morning and evening.
- And of course, EFT tapping—my absolute go-to for emotional release, nervous system support, and grounding

So... What Is EFT Tapping, and Why Should You Care?
EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique, and it combines talk therapy with acupressure. You gently tap on specific energy points (like the side of your hand, your temples, under your eyes) while speaking out loud about what you're feeling.
It’s kind of like acupuncture for your emotions—only without the needles.
What makes EFT so effective is that it helps you acknowledge what you’re feeling without pushing it down. You name the fear, the worry, the sadness—and then you gently reframe it. You don’t skip past the hard stuff. You meet it, with compassion.
And the science backs it up.
Tapping has been shown to calm the amygdala, the part of your brain responsible for the fight-flight-freeze response. It also helps regulate cortisol levels, the hormone responsible for stress. Over time, using EFT can rewire your brain’s default stress response, making it easier to stay grounded during future challenges.
This isn’t just woo—it’s neuroplasticity in action.

Why We All Need EFT Right Now
Let’s take a step back and look at the bigger picture: the world is in flux. Every day brings new headlines, new tragedies, new reasons to feel unsettled. Whether it’s global conflicts, rising living costs, political instability, climate anxiety—it’s a lot.
And even if you’re not directly affected by every crisis, your nervous system is picking it all up.
We’re also contending with the pressure to constantly perform. To keep producing, keep showing up, keep functioning even when we feel overwhelmed. There’s very little space to pause. But without that pause, we can’t process. And without processing, we just keep carrying it all in our bodies.
That’s why tools like EFT tapping are so crucial. Not because they eliminate uncertainty, but because they help you stay resourced within it. They help you stay in your body, stay with your breath, and remember that you have choices—even when the world feels out of control.
Using Affirmations and “Tapping and Ranting”
One of my favorite ways to use EFT is what I call “tapping and ranting.” It’s exactly what it sounds like. You start tapping and just speak whatever’s on your mind:
“I’m so overwhelmed. I don’t know what’s going to happen. Everything feels out of control. I hate this feeling. I wish I could fix it. I feel helpless. I feel sad. I feel like I can’t do anything right now.”
And then you let the energy shift.
Gradually, gently, you move into more supportive statements:
“But maybe I don’t have to have all the answers right now. Maybe it’s okay to not know. Maybe I can find small ways to feel grounded. Maybe I’m doing better than I think.”
Affirmations like:
“It’s OK to feel this way.”
“Even if I can’t control the world, I can support myself.”
“I’m allowed to be present, even when life feels uncertain.”
These are powerful anchors. Spoken while tapping, they become even more effective because they engage both your emotional brain and your nervous system at the same time.
Real Talk: This Is Something I Still Work On
I’m not here to pretend I’ve got it all figured out. I’m a coach, yes—but I’m also a person who worries, who overthinks, who wakes up some days feeling like the weight of the world is just... a little too much.
That’s why I use these tools. Not because they make me superhuman, but because they help me stay human—and functional. They help me get through the day with more presence, more clarity, and more self-compassion.
You’re Not Powerless — You’re Just Overloaded
The biggest lie uncertainty tells us is that we’re powerless. But you’re not.
You have tools. You have breath. You have choice.
You may not be able to fix everything happening outside of you, but you can always come back to the space within you. You can learn to respond, rather than react. You can slow down. You can ground.
And sometimes, that’s the most powerful thing you can do.
Final Thoughts: You’re Allowed to Breathe Here
If the uncertainty of the world is weighing on you, let this be your permission to not hold it all alone.
You don’t have to “figure it out.”
You don’t have to be perfectly okay.
You just have to keep showing up, one breath at a time.
Let EFT be your reset button. Let your body speak. Let your nervous system soften.
And let yourself remember—you’re doing the best you can.
And that’s enough.
