How Life Coaches Help Expat and Digital Nomad Men Live Their Best Lives Abroad

In a world abroad where it can be hard to balance goals, work/life balance, stress and emotional management with responsibilities that are continuously evolving, it isn’t surprising that many expat men are finding it more difficult attain their goals in every area abroad. For many, a life coach can help men find their direction and make positive changes to improve their lives and manage the challenges of living abroad.

How Life Coaches Help Expat and Digital Nomad Men Live Their Best Lives Abroad

Today’s society can be hard to navigate. And no matter what anyone shows on their Instagram, moving abroad or deciding to become a digital nomad is NOT necessarily easier. It's just different. For many men who move abroad, there is a typical honeymoon period as the person settles into their new job, or new environment. But it doesn't mean that challenges don't arise once the settling in starts. Plus, in addition to responsibilities of a new job or trying to navigate visas and all the other new factors that come along with moving abroad or being a digital nomad, the reality is that it can be much harder than people realize.

In a world abroad where it can get confusing and hard to balance goals, work/life balance, and stress and emotional help, these responsibilities are continuously evolving, it isn’t surprising that many men are finding it more difficult to improve themselves and attain their goals while living in another country. For many expats and digital nomad men, a life coach can help clients find their direction and make positive changes to improve their lives abroad.

More people are exploring the digital nomad lifestyle or the ability to work remotely while moving from place to place as they wish. Though this lifestyle can be extremely rewarding and liberating, it has its share of ups and downs, including a measure of instability that not everyone may be prepared for. If you're someone who greatly values security as one of your emotional needs, this can be downright scary to adjust to.

One of the drawbacks of living in different parts of the world is the absence of ready support that one gains from a tight-knit circle of friends and family that a person has known for a long time. Even if the internet provides opportunities to communicate through video calls, instant messages, and social media, it often lacks the intimacy and the same level of connection that in-person interaction can give. And sometimes, it can be harder than you anticipate to build up a close group of friends quickly and it can take more time the older you get.

Life coaching gives you the support you need, helping you identify your goals and making it easier to reach them. Many digital nomads, as well as expats, have sought the help of life coaches who have helped them feel more confident, resilient, and in control of their destiny, choices and lifestyle.

Life Coaching helps with the challenges of living abroad

Expats and digital nomads understand that living abroad isn’t all glitz and glamor as some might think. Indeed, it can be exciting, but it also comes with challenges such as language barriers, an unfamiliar culture and customs to get used to, and an entirely foreign work environment with a different business culture and even work ethic. Coaching can help men who work and live abroad live more fulfilling lives while teaching them how to take these challenges in stride while empowering them in the things they can control on a daily basis.

Starting a new life can be a good thing, but living away from your closest family and friends can takes its toll and can make it hard to maintain a positive outlook on life. Having a life coach to motivate you and keep you accountable to yourself and can help you stay the course and become more purposeful in reaching your goals even if your living situation is constantly changing.

Expat men can feel isolated at times if they have challenges integrating into the culture or making close connections. This can be difficult when they don't have people to talk to about their goals and visions to feel supported. In some cases, even a partner from that country and culture might have difficulty understanding he moved abroad to be with them but that partner is from the culture they're now living in. In other cases, their partner or spouse might have 'followed' them abroad and have an entirely different set of challenges as they try to recreate their own life. This person might feel even more challenged and this can even create a strain on the relationship in a totally new way the couple hadn't dealt with before so these topics could be more challenging to discuss. A coach listens and helps you while maintaining full confidentiality to make you feel heard, not judged, and supported.

"Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes," Carl Jung, Swiss psychiatrist, Letters, 1973

Moving can be hard, and saying goodbye to familiar places and faces makes it doubly so. For many expats and digital nomads around the world, the question “Should I stay or should I go?” has been with them forever, and men usually find it very difficult. Sometimes understanding wants and needs can be challenging if there are blind spots in self-awareness as well.

First, there is the question of career progression: “Is this move going to help me?” Then, there is the question of money: “Is the grass really greener on the other side, or am I fooling myself?”

There has always been cultural pressure on men to find success and fulfillment in their work. Many men are now realizing the stress that this social conditioning has put on their shoulders. Statistics indicate that more men tend to be afraid of career and financial failure with 68% of American men saying that there’s a lot of financial pressure on them.

People feel confined to this thinking tend to also have limiting beliefs and ideas of their capabilities, potential, and goals. They are constrained by society’s demands, however, life coaching can help them expand their thinking on what they can do, and become true to themselves so that they can feel more successful in their endeavors.

A life coach can hear them out, give them a sounding board for their ideas, and use their expertise to provide professional guidance in reaching their dreams.

Life Coaching & EFT Tapping helps men deal with stress

With pressure from all areas of life, men living abroad need to purposely commit themselves to their mental health. In some cases, men can hold in emotions instead of letting them go or processing them, which leads to anger, resentment, feelings of helplessness, and overwhelm. There are strategies to manage emotional health, and one of them is the emotional freedom technique (EFT Tapping)

When a person feels overwhelming anxiety, stress, or any negative emotion, EFT or tapping can reduce the effects of stress, depression, and other negative psychological manifestations. EFT (sometimes called “acupuncture without needles”) effectively combines elements of energy psychology, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), acupuncture, and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to produce positive outcomes.

EFT puts pressure on nine specific points in the body using finger-tapping. These nine points include the top of the head, areas around the eyes, areas around the nose, chin, the beginning of the collarbone, under the arm, and the area between the little finger and wrist. Repeated soft tapping in these areas increases feelings of relaxation and lessens feelings of stress and anxiety.

A life coach with a background in EFT tapping can help many men living abroad deal with the many pressures and demands of modern life abroad. EFT can help improve their personal performance at work, help them navigate relationships better, and show them how to achieve a more balanced emotional state without their internal blocks that leads to a vibrant and productive life.

“You shouldn’t focus on why you can’t do something, which is what most people do. You should focus on why perhaps you can, and be one of the exceptions.” – Steve Case, Co-founder of AOL

A Life Coach can help you move on to the next big thing

You might think that life in a foreign country frees you from worries, but every lifestyle has its set of problems and concerns, expats and digital nomads included. Life coaches can help give you the tools you need to deal with stress, competition, and anxiety.

Most importantly, they can help you become more decisive and recognize when it’s time to move on to the next phase of your life.
